Summer: the perfect season. Unless you are me and hate the heat…and the insects…and nature, in general. But for kids, summer is an almost magical time, where sleeping in, no homework, and spending most of their time in the backyard is the norm. Summer is basically three months in paradise for kids and, since this is probably when kids spend most of their time outside, I’ve compiled a list of outdoor activities for kids that are entertaining, artistic, and even *GASP* educational (I always like to sneak a lesson plan in whenever possible).
Not only does this list have easy and budget-friendly games and activities, but I’ve included paint and chalk art projects for kids who enjoy channeling their inner Picasso, from dandelion art to a unique twist on traditional sidewalk art. And if a trip to the beach or pool isn’t possible this summer, then never fear! This list contains some absolutely wonderful water activities that can be completed in the backyard, like DIY science projects and homemade water soakers.
But, you may protest, my kid is a total bookworm and hates being outside! I get it. I totally was the kid who brought a book with her literally everywhere. But, I solemnly swear that any and every kid will love these summer kids’ crafts, no matter their bookworm status. And if your kids would rather be lost in a book, then I’ve also got that covered. This list contains multiple ideas for creating a fairy garden, so kids can create their own land of make-believe in the backyard with some adorable and imaginative fairytale crafts.
