My husband and I lost 2 babies last year due to medical complications on my end of things (a blood disorder and hyperactive immune system) that we didn’t know about before trying to start our family.
A baby born after a loss or losses is referred to as a ‘rainbow baby’ to represent the joy and hope after the storm.
We are saving up for the treatments needed to have our rainbow baby, who I would love to wrap in this rainbow blanket when he/she gets here.

When this lady was a child I used to cut her hair. Beautiful blonde and sweet. As she grew up she made some bad life choices that almost got her murdered; instead they beat her to a pulp and left her bleeding on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere like garbage. This courageous woman worked so very hard to leave that lifestyle with the help of her boyfriend; who is now her hubby. They are expecting a baby boy in October. They purchased their first home this year and the blanket would look lovely in baby’s nursery. She deserves some more beauty in her life.

I would make this afghan for my granddaughter, Laura. She just got married and I am making a box for her to be given to her when she starts her family. I am getting older at a still spunky 73, and my eyes are giving me some problems. That means that I tend to make things with larger hooks now. I hope to get my eyes fixed soon so that I can make lots more things for her. This blanket looks to be one which I could do now so that she will have it when the time comes. She happens to love afghans. She wore out the one I made for her as a baby. So I made her another one last year and have one for her to share with her husband to go off to her in a couple of weeks. She cannot crochet, which makes my things for her have an extra special value.

I would make a blanket for someone who was in need of one for their baby, I make a lot of blankets since I don’t have children. I enjoy giving the blankets to other people who need them. My friends grandkids are nuts about me when they see something new somewhere they make their parents take a picture and they come running to me to ask if I could make them one, and of course I always make it for them I just love them for filling up my days. I love to see their reaction when I give them what they ask for its such a pleasure.

What bright beautiful colors. My daughter and son-in-law have not been able to have a child of their own and are going through the process of adoption. The colors of the rainbow are a perfect representation for a newborn and two loving parents: red- life, orange- healing, yellow -sunlight, green-nature, blue-serenity, purple-spirit, and white-purity and love. This would make the perfect gift for them.

We only have one grandchild and no possibilities for any more, so I would make it for her. OR, I would make it for my mom as she probably could use a new one since she lets her pup sleep on her others, OR I could donate it to the nicu at our local hosp. OR I could donate it to a nursing home OR…………whatever I would do, it sure would be fun to work with such soft and wonderful colors!

I would make this blanket and gift it to my Aunt Evelyn. I owe this wonderful woman my life, literally! When I was seven she saved me from drowning, and I love her to the moon and back. She is in her nineties now, and living in a really great nursing home in B.C. and this would make a nice warm lapghan for when she is relaxing in her wheelchair, chatting with her friends in the afternoon. The colours would brighten her day, every day!

I am part of a needle crafters group. We crochet, knit + quilt for children, families + seniors in our community. I crochet hats + scarves for a local preschool. The yearly request from the school is typically 120 hats + scarves. They also accept lapghans for the children. If I won this prize, I would crochet a lapghan(s) for the children in this preschool. It would be a welcome break from crochetting just hats + scarves. 🙂
