Super sparkles shine bright with this DIY car charm tutorial! Have you ever thought about making jewelry for your car? Well, it’s super easy when you mix crystals, feathers, druzy, charms and more – and these designs come together in minutes!
What’s great about these designs is that they are totally customizable – create a piece in your favorite colors or with your favorite symbols (peace sign beads, feathers or dreamcatcher charms, even alphabet beads). You can even create different looks and switch out the charm, depending on your mood!
I love the way crystals reflect the light! Note: keep these charms smaller, as anything that obstructions vision while driving is grounds for getting in trouble with the law – not good! I’d suggest not creating a huge charm that gets in the way of your vision.
Follow the simple DIY tutorial below to create your very own car charm decoration!
Step 1: Gather materials. Needed are a mix of crystals and beads, feathers, druzy connectors or large glass crystal drop pendants, 20g wire, chain, ribbon ends, jump rings, silver and gold bails, jump rings, lobster clasps, and pliers.
Use a mix of crystals, stones, pave beads and more for a truly bohemian look!
To create the feather druzy charm, start by grouping 3 feathers together and securing with a ribbon end.
Attach the feather group to the bottom of a druzy connector with a 8mm jump ring.
Make a bead link with a mix of bead types and the 20g wire. Make sure to wrap both ends for sturdiness!
Connect the bead link to the top of the druzy with an 8mm jumpring. Attach the top of the bead link with 8mm jump rings to a gold bail. Cut a 20cm piece of chain and slide through bail. Add a clasp and jumpring at the ends of the chain.
20cm seems to be a good size that fits on most rearview mirrors.
To make the beaded car charms, create various beaded links from 20g silver wire and beads. Attach with 8mm jump rings. Add 20cm of silver chain through a silver bail, and add a clasp and jumping at the ends of the chain. Connect bail to top of bead link with another jumpring.
I love making these as a way to use up random beads that don’t have use in other projects – you only need a few key beads per piece, and the random mix of textures aids in creating that hippie-chic look.
Go crazy with color here – I love the bright hues that take away from the dull moments sitting in traffic!! 🙂
