I’ve always had a fondness of dollar stores, especially ones like the Dollar Tree, where everything is literally a dollar (plus tax). Places like the Dollar General have prices around $5 for certain items, so they’re just posers. One of the best things about dollar stores is you can usually find cheap supplies for crafts! Dollar store craft ideas are some of the best upcycle projects around, whether you go to an actual dollar store or hit up a thrift shop (cue Macklemore music). If you need budget-friendly crafts, then dollar store ideas are definitely the way to go.
I’ve certainly reaped the benefits of the dollar store’s crafting supplies in the past. Back in my high school days, I once had to wear a band-aid on prom night and it was very obvious on my shoulder. This, of course, was the end of the world. Don’t think that my high school self suffered through a night at the prom with an ugly band-aid on display. Oh no, I wouldn’t stand for it. Instead, I pulled on my DIY hat and made a dollar store craft!
Thankfully, I thought to ask an artsy friend to help me decorate a band-aid to match my prom dress! She brought over her nail polish and gave it a quick paint job, and after it dried I added stick-on jewels for my dear Dollar Tree as accents. It turned out really well, and looked great with the dress! I even got compliments on it throughout the night. This DIY band-aid is my proudest prom accessory.
I am a strong believer in sharing, so here I will share some great dollar store crafts with all of you. Below are fifteen crafts that involve supplies from a dollar store or thrift store that are decorative, fun, and functional. I don’t know who discovered upcycling, but I’d like to shake their hand.
