This DIY ring dish tutorial is simply gorgeous! It’s also an easy craft idea for those needing a gift at the last minute. Simple craft ideas are also fun to make and so easy to add your own twist! You can conveniently turn these ring dishes into DIY gifts with a personalized location or forgo the map design for one of your own. We love the idea of creating some monogrammed ring dishes for a special and unique DIY home decor project.
A girl can never have too much jewelry, and eventually, we run out of room to put it all. It’s difficult to stay organized as you accumulate jewelry, but catch-all dishes and ring dishes make it easy to drop your jewelry without having to always organize as you go. I’ve created several jewelry storage items lately, including a clay cactus ring holder (one of my favorites!) and a dresser knob necklace hanger. A ring dish was still missing from my dresser, so it was about time I made one. Hopefully, using a ring dish also keeps your little items from disappearing all over the house!
Ring dishes make excellent catch-all dishes, and all you really need is a plate. It just so happens that the Dollar Store has plenty in multiple shapes and sizes! This project is really inexpensive and only requires a couple supplies, so you can easily make a hundred of them.
- White round dish
- Gold leaf paint
- Small paint brushes
- Printed map (if needed)
I free-handed the map while I was looking one up online, but if you prefer to follow guidelines instead, you can print out a map, cut out continents, and then trace them onto the plate with a pencil. The pencil wipes away easily, so make all the mistakes you want!
Trace the general outlines of the continents onto the plate. Once you’ve planned out your outlines, use a small paintbrush to paint gold leaf in the outlined continents. Once you’ve filled in the land, use the small paintbrush to create jagged lines around the continents—just like on a real map. Lastly, add small islands and clean up or smooth out the gold leaf paint.
Let dry completely before using as a catch-all or ring dish. Display on a bathroom counter, dresser, or vanity and fill it up! You can do this with other sizes or colors and have fun with it!
