First, here in Maine, we wait for the snow to melt. Then, we start by moving the sand and salt buckets from the mud room to the garage. After that we store the snow shovels in the shed and take out the lawn furniture and garden tools. If the mud has dried sufficiently we change the snow mats inside the door for the throw rugs, and starting with tulips we get to have fresh cut flowers again! We also get to take down the thermal curtains and put up curtains that let light in again!

My husband and I set aside a day, kid free (big thanks to close by relatives), that allows us to give the house a good dusting and cleaning. Then, if there’s extra time that day or we talked the relatives into a sleepover, we start packing up any winter clothes or items & pull out the warmer weather clothes and decorations.

Spring! Oh that word just makes me happy. When spring rolls around I get all sorts of ideas of organization and a home and yard that is in complete order. A place for everything and everything in it’s place as I always say. Who am I kidding?? I know how this will turn out. I’ll pick up a few things then I’ll come across a shiny something or another that I had “good intentions” for when I bought it. My mind will start racing I’ll get a fevered sweat across my brow I’ll go grab my liquid fusion some shell or yarn or beads or paints OH MY THE POSSIBILTIES ARE ENDLESS!!!!!!!!!! There I lay in a pile of glitter with glue and tissue paper stuck in my hair, panting exhaustedly I vow to spring clean. Under my breath I chuckle “as soon as I craft” LOL

Well, in Ohio there is never a grand demarcation between one day and another when the calendar rolls over to “Spring” – so cold and snow linger, but I delve into colorful crafts and pastel colors, and of course, the elements of Spring that we all recall: baby animals, birdies singing, fresh colors and cleaning around the house. 🙂

Here in south Texas, not too much transition is needed fortunately! But we definitely do some cleaning and re-organizing, and switch out heavy winter clothes for light summer clothes in the closets. We try to clear out unneeded stuff (especially from the holidays) for donations as well. After that it’s the fun part, decorating with pretty spring colors and designs!

Transitioning the house from winter to spring involves purging items that are no longer loved or used on a regular basis, from toys to clothes to household items. I also like to do a deep cleaning of the whole house – windows, wash curtains, steam clean rugs, etc. It’s a nice way to ‘out with the old staleness and in with the new freshness of the year’ type of cleaning. A great time to get the garden ready for new beds and blooms too. We usually empty the old compost and start a new one for the year.

I start getting “warmer weather” clothes out (we live in Indiana). My favorite thing is to put out winter coats and snow boots away. I start burning more fruity scented candles. I let the “spring cleaning bug” bit me. I also begin planning any landscaping projects and summer vacations. As soon as it’s warm enough I open windows. I begin checking my irises everyday starting mid April…there’s always so much to look forward to when the days get longer and the weather gets warmer.

At first I thought it would be difficult to part with all of the “stuff” but it got easier the more I was able to stuff into boxes. Now there is more room to put things away, everything is starting to have its own home (neat and tidy home).

I like to go into spring with a clean and organized house and craft room. I go through all my craft supplies and fabrics, sorting through what I will use and what I won’t. Some of the items I donate to charity and some I keep and sell at a garage sale. I wash all the floors, walls, baseboards and drapes. I paint rooms that need painting and put out fresh and light bedding in preparation of the warm summer months. I clean up in the yard and flower beds so I can enjoy the flowers over the summer. In my craft room I reorganize my supplies so they are more accessible since I gleaned out some. I get projects ready to do for the spring and summer. I can then sit outside and enjoy the warmer days.

The warmer weather starts us going through everything in the house. Once that’s done we all pick a room and clean from top to bottom. My transition from winter to spring, is usually gathering all the camping equipment that i repaired in the winter, and putting it in the garage ready for summer, along with fishing gear. Any bikes, or childrens toys that were repaired back into the garage. Set a yard sale date, for all the items that I went thru, inventoried, and marked during winter that are no longer needed. Or put some items on a yard sale site. Open up the windows, change out filters in furnance and vacumn it out. Check and change batteries in smoke detectors. Put away snow shovels, and salt. Get out the lawn mowers and repair what may be needed on them. Do a thorough cleaning on the cars, inside and out.. Open up the windows, and screen doors to air out the house.. Get the steam cleaner out on the carpets.. pull out appliances, and clean behind them.. Check for any damages to house; and trees during winter and deal with it.. Call it a day, and treat myself to a movie or shopping trip! LOL

Living in FL there is not much of a change in seasons…lol. I do like to wash my windows, clean tops of door mouldings and ceiling fans. Right before spring and fall clean out closets of seasonal clothing that doesn’t fit or beyond repair. Clean the pool, scrub patio furniture and add some new plantings.

    I’ve already started.
This year I painted with some serious color, and added insulating blinds to 2 windows.
I added a splash of strong color on one wall in the living room, changed the art on the walls, and now I’m painting the master bedroom purple (yep), and I’m going to get some nice shades to fit inside the freshly painted trim. I did the same thing last year with a change to a summery tint of blue to walls and ceiling in my son’s room, and replaced the old curtains with vertical blinds for a more “grown up” look. Nothing original there, but he loved it, and his happiness made my day/ week/ season.
Everything looks nicer with a new coat of paint, and this year I went for a cheerful effect with vibrant spring colors. That purple is perfect., but everyone who’s seen it in process, has wanted to know the name of the color and brand of paint,. and i haven’t even found the right fabric or a store-bought bedcover to set it off yet .
So much for thinking it would be an off-beat choice for a unique look. . .

I started two weeks ago ” spring Fever set in ” LOL
I start one room at a time , taking everything off the walls & removing the curtains . Everything gets washed from top to bottom , removing that dry air sent and bring in the fresh scent of Spring . Windows are washed inside & out , allowing sunbeams to shine through on the recycled plastic bottle flowers that will hang in windows . I have a long ivy plant that stands in the middle of the window and is draped over my curtain pole that help make my plastic flowers look as if they are blooming off a real plant . i have a crocheted white with yellow roses couch cover i love and helps make a spring ‘ feeling . Every day , i check online in Favecrafts , for uplifting ways to recycle anything before throwing away and ways to add a touch of brightness into my life &home . Found some ways to decorate up old flower pots and plan to use some of these idea’s then go find & buy some indoor plants for each one.

We’re still shovelling snow here, and bundling against wicked windchill. But today is March 1, or The First Day of Not-February, which this year should be a huge holiday. So this evening I’m going to find my clippers. Tomorrow I will put on all my outside stuff and wade through the thigh-high snow to my forsythia bush, where I will cut some branches to bring inside. I cut some every year; I put them in water, and after a few days or so, the “sticks” are covered with yellow flowers. A promise of spring!! The winter-to-spring housework can wait!

My partner and I both have to walk with canes, so our spring cleaning seems to take forever. My granddaughter has left glue, paint, etc. hidden away with the tops off from some wonderful project this winter. It usually takes me a full day just to clean her craft area. Mine is done in bits and pieces. With the sun shinning and the windows open, it is much better than having to put away stuff for winter. This prize would make it so easy to replace things rather than having to go into town shopping!

As soon as the days become warm and sunny, turn off the heat-open the Windows. Inside we wash walls, floors, cabinets, Windows, etc. Outside cut away dead foliage, hand turn soil in the garden beds, power wash deck and siding. Then I start planning projects from gardening to crafts to indoor remodeling. Start taking walks and kick up my fitness routine. This giveaway could get me started…and maybe finish… on a project. I read in a book taking place in the Victorian era that some of the preparations for spring included changing out heavy winter draperies (I do sheets and duvet as well) and they filled the now unused fireplaces with flowers or tableaus. I don’t put flowers but I have created screens out of large picture frames put together with hinges. I insert different craft papers in the frames instead of pictures. The empty black fireplaces were really putting a “damper” on my spring.

With grandchildren here to stay most of the summer I would love to win this prize!

I begin my spring cleaning after the Christmas decorations are packed away for another year. Sometime in January, while it is cold, raining or snowing, and outside activities are at a premium. My spring cleaning has nothing to do with wardrobe as my walk-in closet provides space for all seasons. Mine begins with drawers, cabinets, linen closets, utility room, health and beauty products, etc. I do this at my own pace, as I am retired and have the liberty to do so. I box items that are no longer needed but still would be a treasure to someone else. Then around May, my friends and family gather together for a “yard sale”. This gives me a little extra money to spend on things for spring. Of course, as the weather gets warmer and I can work outside, I love to plant many colorful flowers and continue this until late fall. As I unclutter my indoors, I am able to “spring clean” the curtains, windows, window sills, etc.
I do love the way the sun shines through my freshly washed windows.

I go from winter to spring by lighting up everything around me including my house and my wardrobe. I go from the darker winter colors to the pastel spring colors. In my house I do simple things by changing towels, bed linens, curtains, etc. The windows are opened which cleans out the stale winter air and brings in the sweet smell after a spring rain.

This spring we will finish up home painting inside, cause spring here usually starts in May, regardless of the calendar. We won’t be putting old things back on the walls, per say. We are looking to replace the old with new, or new to us. Then we are planning on a huge yard sale. (Proceeds for a vacation.) Also when we do have off warm days, open windows to air out from our 4 rescue dogs. Washing blankets, and airing them to dry. Dog blankets also. We are also able to let the dogs out more with the sun out. We are a multiple season area here, winter, mud, spring, yard sales, fishing, gardening, summer, fall, mud, hunting, and snow. Thank you for the give away. Take care.

I wash, sort, and put away winter clothes, coats, etc., and bring out spring and summer clothes. This is also a good time to discard any items we don’t want any more. Time to wash windows and sweep down the walls, then a good allover dusting and vacuuming. When the temperatures are nice, air out the house. Part of this is done during the winter, while my business is slow.

clean all the dust that you don’t see, and disinfect everything I can see, clean closets for storageHi my name is sarah, I do believe the transition into spring is the best thing after winter. I just want to get a head start when we spring forward to more daylight, and that’s when I start opening all the windows, and enjoy the sun. my grandson, and granddaughter are here most of th spring, and summer. I watch them while my daughter, and son in law work and they like to come and stay at my house. my grandson is asthmatic, and they both have a lot of allergies so I don’t have many months until the aircondition goes on. so I start my cleaning in the last week of Feb. the first week of march I try to open the windows, I take all the blinds off the windows, and clean then, I dust all the places that you really don’t see in the winter, clean the closets for new storage. everything you can see gets dusted. I just bought my granddaughter who is going to be 8 in May a sewing machine for Xmas 2014 she loves it. so we are taking full advantage of learning together, I knew hoe to sew a little, but its much more fun then doing it by nyself. I have big plans this spring. I clean every year, but I clean deeper now that my grandson has asthma, but I am used to it, because my daughter had asthma as a child. this year myself, and my fiancé have done some remodeling, and we still have to fix the awning over the back patio. we are looking forward to the out door barbequing this year. we have to clean top floor to basement this year, but after the coldest winter we have had since probably 10 yrs we are looking forward to it. thank you, sarah sass

How I transition from Winter to Spring begins with cleaning all my windows until they sparkle. This is followed by packing away all winter clothing and unpacking all Spring/Summer clothes and cleaning drawers and closets as I go. Plant bulbs and seedlings for the garden and bringing out the lawn furniture. Refresh the house with beautiful pastel colours…sit back and enjoy!

I gather my spring curtains, rewash them (as they have been packed away awhile and I love clean smelling ones) and then take down my winter curtains. Washing my windows inside and out is such a joy to do. After a hard and long winter this is a joyous time. I the take each room and give them a cleaning with the windows open! We open the windows and get fresh air in and roll up the rugs and bring them outside and shake them out and clean, clean, clean!

I transition my home by putting away all the heavy winter fabrics – coats, clothes, blankets, etc. Then I swap out the sheets and pillow cases for lighter, brighter colours and use a light, colourful throw blanket to cover my couch. I also move the furniture around, mostly to clean but also to change the layout, and bring out anything with flowers on it – my china roses, throw pillows, doilies, dishes, etc. I will also clean the curtains and when I replace them will usually pin them back to allow move light in.

Clean the windows and screens from dust. Then clean the dust that is inside. Open the windows to let in fresh air. That will let in more dust with our Santa Ana winds. Oh well! Fresh air is still the best. Thank you for the chance to win.

We do a good clean-up and put away ALL the winter outerwear and bedding. Opening the windows to air out the house is the real sign of spring in our house!

I clean and dust and do the windows…. and try to organize things that got out of place over the winter. I put colder weather clothing away and bring out lighter, brighter colors in the wardrobe. I like to think about making new spring crafts, too… to make everything look springy and fresh and colorful. 🙂

Bringing out the white accents with lots of flowers whether it’s scents or decorations, I also put away the pinecones and bring out the birds. I love bird accessories. A great big spring clean, throw open all the windows is in order and makes the house so fresh. Anything that has to be made or painted finally can be because you can open the windows.

I open all the windows and air the house out to get rid of the stale air. Then I switch the flannel sheets for cotton. I start making a list of the things I want to get done before summer starts.

While it is still cold outside, I first will change the candles that I burn from Holiday scents to Fresh Floral scents. I will clean out my cupboard and closets. As the sun starts to shine, I will clean the windows inside and then change my decor. Once that warm air comes and my flowers start to blossom, I open my windows and I’m outside in my garden working.

I put up winter clothes and do some spring cleaning. Opening up windows with fresh air is so great. I love to start working in my yard to welcome spring flowers. I would like to get better organized so that I could make crafts for people. So organization is on my list of things for spring cleaning.

Clean house, wash curtains, clean carpet, change type of bedding, furniture covers and area rugs, pack away winter/get out summer clothes and shoes, change make-up palette, open windows and spray Febreze, do a little painting, set out flowering plants. Make Easter crafts, decorate with color, prepare self and dogs for mosquito/flea season. Children’s Spring/Summer church events: Easter egg hunt and festival, Vacation Bible School, bus trips, day camp, talent show. Brace myself (and stock up on cornstarch to coat body so I can get dressed) for no air conditioning.

Spring brings dreams of gardening, so I send away for catalogues and start planning my new garden. I change the wreath on the front door to a bright “springy” one and change the duvet cover on the bed to a light coloured one. In general, remove the heavy dark things and bring out the light, bright ones. The world outside is renewing and I want the same inside!

I transition to spring with spring cleaning, I’ve put up an Easter wreath and I have planted seeds to start my garden when the weather gets nice enough. On top of that, the kids are into doing spring crafts like painting birdhouses to put outside for our feathered friends.
