Pick a Place: Festive Place Mat Patterns for Christmas

October 31, 2014 by AllFreeChristmasCrafts 3 Comments

It seems as though every single time I put a freshly laundered one on the table, someone (including me) spills on it. Rather than policing my guests or having  panic attack every time somebody passes a dish, I’ve decided to take a different tack: place mats. Place mats are simple to make, easy to clean, and give your table setting holiday flair.  Christmas-inspired place mats come in a variety of designs, from traditional red and green place mats to kid-friendly place mats that will keep little ones entertained throughout the meal. We’ve pulled together some of our favorite place mat patterns for the season. If you’re looking to give your table setting instant style, handmade place mats are the way to go.

Traditional Place Mat Patterns

Poinsettia Place Mats and NapkinsPoinsettia Place Mats and Napkins – Add a bit of festivity to your dining room with these place mats.

Stenciled Snowflake Place Mats – Depending on which stencil you choose, you can leave these inexpensive place mats out all winter.

Playful Place Mats – We love the silverware pockets in the shape of stockings.

Crocheted Christmas Place Mats – For people who love to get nostalgic, you can’t beat crocheted place mats.

Festive Felt Place Mats – Create a geometric Christmas tree with fabric scraps.

Cheerful Christmas Place Mats & Coasters  – Pick out your favorite fabrics (or whatever you have leftover) to put together these precious place mats and coasters.

Bonus: Unexpected Place Mat Ideas

Chalkboard Place Mat and TagChalkboard Place Mat and Tag – Perfect for kids, these place mats feature chalkboard fabric. Let your little one’s imagination soar at the table.

Recycled Round Place Mats – Finally, a crafty excuse to drink wine! Turn old corks into a classy table setting.

Reversible Family Photo Place Mats – Make your holiday table more meaningful with place mats that feature your loved ones.

Do you use a tablecloth or place mats to protect your table?

I use a table cloth (white lace) and then line up some place mats down the center of the table as a runner or to hold hot dishes.
