My favorite Christmas crochet craft is something that I’ll discover after taking classes to learn how to crochet…I start this month at a church that is making mats for the homeless. I have a crocheted shopping bag that I received as a Christmas gift from my girl friend that I love and I hope to learn how to make them.

This year is blankets, so I’m making 20 single-person blankies. Last year, it was granny squares and each item I made was square-shaped or made with at least one granny square!

I learned to crochet many years ago when I went to a Christmastime community class offered in Winston-Salem, NC for people who wanted to crochet Christmas ornaments. I have been crocheting ever since, but I give away 98% of what I make to charitable causes, such as lapghans to nursing homes here in Texas, where I now live. This is one of my favorite hobbies.

I crochet all sorts of things. I am currently working on a special fox hat for a special friend in Vietnam as an Xmas present. I have had to alter a child’s pattern to get the right size for an adult and I have been slowly working on attaching the ears (had to write up my own pattern for them) so they stay up. It also needs a lot of embroidered details so it is taking a long time to work out how I am going to do each detail and with what materials. My friend is going to be so surprised and happy with it so it is worth the effort to make this OOAK hat for her.

I also crochet BJD doll clothes for people, ornaments, lots of hats in all sizes and amigurumi. I always have four or five projects lying around to pick up as the mood hits. I definitely crochet more during the winter months, even though it rarely gets that cold in our part of Texas. Crochet always seems to be a more fall and winter kind of craft to do.

My favorite will always be crocheting Christmas Tree Ornaments. When my children were little, we always had a Charlie Brown Christmas Tree. They strung popcorn and I would finish up our ornaments as my husband put lights in the tree. WONDERFUL memories!!! Thanks for the reminder. It put a smile on my face!!! ; >

I crocheted some snowflakes, it was so much fun! I liked that they were a small quick project. I gave them out as gifts in Christmas cards. I used for ornaments on our tree and for decor on our door and windows. The best thing was, I made each one different just like a real snow flake.
