Today’s Project

On the tenth day of our 12 Days of Christmas Giveaway, my true love gave to me…the Crocheted Mini Stocking from Simplicity!

Crocheted Mini Stocking

Here’s an easy project for the beginning crocheter that only take 3 oz of worsted weight yarn. Perfect as an ornament or a holder for a cash gift.

Stitches Used: Chain, Single Crochet; Slip Stitch; Half Double Crochet

ABBREVIATIONS

chain – ch, slip stitch – sl st, single crochet – sc, half-double crochet – -hdc, pattern – pat, stitch(es) – st(s), turning chain – tch, yarn over – yo

MATERIALS

Boye® Crochet Hook Size H Boye® Crochet Hook Size I
Boye® Yarn Needle
1 oz each #4 worsted weight yarn: Red, Green, and White
Optional: 2 Tinsel Pompoms

GAUGE

7 sts=2″, 6 rows=2″ in sc.

INSTRUCTIONS

Note: Change colors in last yo of st in previous color.

MAKE TWO

With red yarn and H hook, ch 25.
Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook and in next 3 ch changing to green in last yo of 4th st. (carry opposite color along and work stitches over top) *4 sc in red, 4 sc in green, rep from * to end, turn. – 24 sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc to end changing color every four sts in color as established, turn.
Rows 3 – 8: Repeat Row 2.

Toe Shaping
Row 9: Ch 1, sc across in established pat to last sc. Sl st in last sc, turn.
Row 10: Ch 1, Skip first sc, sc to end in pat, turn.
Row 11: Ch 1, sc across in pat for 15 sts, turn.
Rows 12 – 22: Work even in pat on 15 sts. Fasten off.

Sew pieces together leaving top open and matching colors when sewing in large areas. Weave in ends and turn right side out (both sides are the same).

Cuff
With size I hook and white, attach yarn at inside center back top edge.
Round 1: With wrong side facing, ch 2 (counts as one hdc), hdc in each sc around and in seam, join with sl st. – 32 hdc.
Round 2: Ch 2 (counts as one hdc), skip one hdc, hdc around, join with sl st.
Round 3 – 9: Rep Round 2 working even on 32 sts.
Round 10: Change to H hook. *Ch 2, sc in next st, ch 3, sc in next st. Repeat from * around. Fasten off at base of first ch 2. Weave in ends. Fold cuff to outside.
(Note: For a more masculine look, delete Round 10 and work one extra round of hdc.)

Hanging Loop
With I hook and red yarn, ch 8 leaving 8″ tail on each end for attaching. Insert ends into back edge of cuff and fasten off. Weave in ends.

Decorative Tie
Using I hook and holding green and red yarn together, ch 38 leaving 8″ tails on both ends,.Fasten off. Starting at front center of cuff, or wherever you prefer bow, weave in and out on second row above edging, leaving ends out to tie in bow as shown. If desired, twist red & green ties together, glue pompom on ends and tack in place.
