Summer Star Quilt Pattern
Star Block Size 40″ x 40″ finished
Surrounding Star Block Size 20″ x 20″ finished
Fabric Requirements:
Fabric A – ½ yard
Fabric B – ¼ yard
Fabric C – ½ yard
Fabric D – 3/8 yard
Fabric E – 3/8 yard
Fabric F – 5/8 yard
Fabric G – ½ yard
Background Fabric – 2 ½ yards
Binding – ½ yard
Backing – 4 yards
From Fabric A, cut:
8 – 5″ x 5″ squares
8 – 4½” x 4½” squares
From Fabric B, cut:
4 – 5″ x 5″ squares
From Fabric C, cut:
16 – 5″ x 5″ squares
From Fabric D, cut:
14 – 5″ x 5″ squares
From Fabric E, cut:
8 – 5″ x 5″ squares
From Fabric F, cut:
26 – 5″ x 5″ squares
From Fabric G, cut:
20 – 5″ x 5″ squares
From the white background fabric, cut:
1 – 8½” x 8½” square
96 – 5″ x 5″ squares
21 – 4½” x 4½” squares
From the binding fabric, cut:
7 – 2½” strips the width of the fabric
Cutting Instructions:
Half Square Triangle Instructions
1. On the back of all of the 5″ x 5″ background squares, draw a diagonal line from corner to corner as shown below. Measuring ¼” from the drawn line, draw the sewing lines on each side.
2. Place a 5″ x 5″ background square on a 5″ x 5″ colored square (designated below), right sides to¬gether, and sew on the outer lines as shown below. Cut apart on the center line. Size to 4½” x 4½”. Repeat for the remaining marked background squares.
Using fabric A, make 8 sets equaling 16 fabric A half square triangles (hst).
- Using fabric B, make 4 sets equaling 8 fabric B hst.
- Using fabric C, make 16 sets equaling 32 fabric C hst.
- Using fabric D, make 14 sets equaling 28 fabric D hst.
- Using fabric E, make 8 sets equaling 16 fabric E hst.
- Using fabric F, make 26 sets equaling 52 fabric F hst.
- Using fabric G, make 20 sets equaling 40 fabric G hst.
Assembly Instructions
1. Using the half square triangles created above and the squares from the cutting instructions, assemble the quilt according to the Color Chart below.
2. Using the designated half square triangles, construct the surrounding blocks as shown below. Follow Color Chart below. Make two blocks as shown on the left and make two blocks as shown on the right.
3. Using the designated half square triangles, construct the corner block as shown below. Follow Color Chart below.
4. Using the diagram below, assemble the Summer Star quilt. Follow Color Chart below.
