On the third day of our 12 Days of Christmas in July Giveaway, my true love gave to me…this Bernat Star Afghan from Yarnspirations!
MATERIALS- Bernat® Worsted (Big Ball) (Solids 400 g /14 oz; 709 m/776 yds) OR Bernat® Super Value (Solids 197 g/7 oz; 389 m/426 yds) OR Bernat® Berella 4 (Solids 100 g/3.5 oz; 197 m/216 yds)
- Contrast A: (White) (400 g/14 oz; 709 m/776 yds)
- Contrast B: (Red) (200 g/7 oz; 355 m/388 yds)
- Contrast C: (Green) (270 g/9.5 oz; 480 m/524 yds)
- Set of four size 5 mm (U.S. 8) double-pointed knitting needles.
- Two size 5 mm (U.S. 8) circular knitting needles 36 ins [90 cm] long or size needed to obtain gauge.
- GAUGE 18 sts and 24 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st.
INSTRUCTIONS
NOTE: Transfer sts onto circular needle, then onto 2 circular needles, when necessary.
With A and pair of double-pointed needles, cast on 4 sts.
1st rnd: (Inc 1 st in next st) 4 times. 8 sts. Divide sts onto 3 needles. Join in rnd.
2nd and alt rnds: Knit.
3rd rnd: *Inc 1 st in next st. Rep from * around. 16 sts.

I would knit little gift purses
I’d knit prayer shawls for local nursing homes and with what I have already in my yarn stash, combine all the yarn left over to make blankets for animal shelters. I’ve also knitted in the past for children services, fire departments, and local homeless shelters. When you can’t do it all, at least you can still give some comfort and love 🙂

Crochet each of my Grandchildren an Elf for the holidays. It either can be hung on the tree or used for Elf on the shelf. It will hopefully be a keepsake they can share with their own children someday.
I would crochet premie baby blankets for babies that didn’t make it. Mothers need blankets to hold their baby in for a while and the blanket becomes a keepsake after the burial.
I am a crocheter but would love to learn knitting. I have learned to do a dish cloth but it hurts my hands so bad. I have to figure out a way to do it that doesn’t hurt. I am in love with this blanket!!
I would knit a centerpiece for a friend’s table. This friend is kind enough to include my daughter when we can’t make the 1500 mile trip, and to include us when we can.
After the initial excitement of winning wore down a bit, I would knit a scarf, hat and matching mittens, just in time for winter.

These colors would be perfect to make the best gift for my granddaughter for Christmas. (she’s 11). We were talking about entering items in our county fair and I went on to tell her about the afghan that I had knitted and had entered into the fair. It was my own “checker board” pattern I created in red and black and she loved it. I didn’t win the first price but I did get a ribbon for “Honorable Mention” which I was so honored to get. She would be extremely excited to open up this gift on Christmas Day.

I would make holiday hats for the veterans at a shelter near me. Have spent some time with them and sometimes just a little kindness will make their whole day.

I would make baby blankets for Christmas season NICU newborns. I have twins, 28 wk premies that are now 22 yrs old. They spent almost 3 months in NICU and we were given premie crocheted clothes and I loved them. I finally learned crochet 2 yrs ago and I love it!
I would make Christmas socks to hang in the fireplace for my 4 grandkids and elf hats for them and a huge and a throw for papa whos a retired disabled vet. 😉
I would create beautiful Christmas stockings to be hung on our town’s Giving tree!
